Sir Dennis Ritchie using Unix Environment, The Language is so versatile and easy to use that still in the Era of Object oriented Programming it is still Widely used to develop Device Drivers.

Javascript too is a very good example of most widely accepted functional programming language used to develop Web Applications , Some Very Popular Frameworks using Java Script with their use are as follows:
     For UI Development : JQuery, Angular.js
     For Server Development: Node.js
     For Mobile Development: React.js
     For Restful Web Services: Node.js, Hapi.js
